Civil Order

The stabs were plentiful in the first game of the 2024 season, as Weasels new and old gathered at the Green Post on an unseasonably warm winter evening.  In the end, reigning league champion Brandon Fogel scored his first league board top since the 2022 season.  However, the quote of the night went to Rob Chase, who, after pulling his last unit off the board in Spring 1906 rather than retreat to an open Moscow, said this: “I don’t do civil disorder, but I do disband to be able to go home.”

The game opened with slow-developing alliances on both sides of the board.  An AIR formed early in the East but took a while to get units in effective positions, while in the West, an FG crystallized after England’s unwelcome foray into the English Channel.  A dramatic stab by Austria on Russia in Fall 1904 opened the board up, and the alliances were off to the races.

FG had the upper hand against AI, and Italy, tired of seeing Austria get all the spoils, broke the alliance in 1905.  And so France and Germany raced each other to the end, Germany breaking the tape thanks to a couple misorders by France.
