Due to a family emergency, we’re postponing the 2018 Weasel Royale Club Championship Game and Undercard to a Sunday to be determined in 2019. (Yes, we know that will present a naming challenge. But calendars are a social construct.) When the Royale happens, the players, in seed order, will be:
- Brandon Fogel
- Kevin O’Kelly
- Christian Kline
- Jim O’Kelley
- Chris Kelly
- Bryan Pravel
- Matt Sundstrom
Note that Jakes Langenfeld (the third seed) and Trotta (the seventh seed) both bowed out of the competition, causing other players to move up, including first and second alternates Pravel and Sundstrom.
Fogel, the three-time Weasel of the Year, will be defending his Bull Weasel title. Kline is coming off his first major since Season 1, having won the Bar Room Brawl championship game in September. O’Kelley, a two-time Royale champion, won CODCon in April and finished fourth at Weasel Moot. Kelly, a two-time Brawl champion, will be playing in his first Royale. Two-time Royale champion Sundstrom is the club’s most decorated player. Season 1 vet O’Kelly and Pravel will be looking for their first major titles. It should be a heckuva game.
While those seven duke it out for this year’s Bull Weasel title, seven other Weasels will be trying to build their resume for next year’s Royale in the Undercard game. A regular league game, the Undercard frequently has launched its board-topper into the next year’s Weasel Royale. We will share a Meetup link once we set a date for the game.
In the meantime, there will be a regular league game at Jim O’Kelley’s home in Little Italy this Sunday.
