The Weekly Weasel — Week of March 28

Read on for the latest news from the Weasels.

Getting the Band Back Together
We got some great news last week. Greg Duenow, one of the club’s biggest characters from the early days, will be joining us for the two Saturday rounds at CODCon. Greg was instrumental to the early success of the club. He hosted games, played all the time, served on our tournament committee, recruited, and to this day remains the only recipient of the Greg Duenow Club Service Award.

New guys, I know you’ll get a kick out of meeting and playing with Greg. Old guys, I hope you’ll be able to join us for at least one of the Saturday rounds. I’m sure Greg would love to see you.

The CODCon Open will be April 9-10 at the Student Resource Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, 425 Fawell Blvd. We’ll be in the same basement classroom that we’ve occupied the past two years.

The Parade of Tributes
Speaking of special guests, the guest list for the World Diplomacy Championship at Weasel Moot X is taking shape. We’re at 58 attendees so far, with just under three months until first stab. (The event will be June 24-26 at Roosevelt University’s vertical campus downtown, 425 S Wabash.)

The list includes two players from the U.K., one from the Netherlands, two from New Zealand, three from Australia, and three from Canada. There are also representatives from 15 states, plus Illinois.

The list includes the reigning world champion, five former world champs, 11 past North American champions, all but one of the past Weasel Moot champs, nine past Grand Prix champs, winners of numerous other tournaments, and lots of other players who have a chance to win this year’s world championship. In fact, the only players who can’t win are the ones who aren’t on the list.

So get yourself on the list. We’re playing on a vertical campus in an urban environment, and the university has a strict guest policy to protect its students. We have to provide the list of attendees by June 21, so if you’re planning to play, be sure to let me know.

Dues Still Due
Your 2016 dues are now due! Once again, we’re charging $25 for members and $10 for students. Dues will get you a combined $15 off our two tournaments–CODCon in April ($5) and the World Diplomacy Championship at Weasel Moot X in June ($10)–plus eligibility for our season-ending awards and the Weasel Royale. And you’ll also help us maintain the website and keep our Meetup page.

You can PayPal your dues to wcwsneak@gmail.com. For your convenience, just use the button on this page. Thank you to the 16 Weasels who have paid up thus far. Click here for the complete list of dues-paying Weasels.

Help Needed!

  • Database. We still are looking for someone who can convert Matt Sundstrom’s rating system to a searchable, web-based database. Please email us at wcwsneak@gmail.com if you can help or have questions. (Ben DiPaola has nibbled on this one…)
  • Tournament Committee. Want to help us put on WDC? Send me an email.

That’s all for this week. See you soon!

Jim
