The Weekly Weasel — Week of Dec. 14

Read on for the latest news from the Weasels.

A Rare Repeat
We Weasels pride ourselves on knocking the hell out of our defending champions. We have five annual titles: Weasel of the Year, CODCon Champion, Alpha Weasel (Weasel Moot Champion), Bull Weasel (Weasel Royale Champion), and Brawl Star (Bar Room Brawl Champion). Last week at this time, only two champs had ever successfully defended their titles: Mike French, who won the first two CODCons in 2007 and 2008, and Nate Cockerill, who posted back-to-back Weasel of the Year titles in 2013 and 2014.

Now we can add Chris Kelly to that short list. On Wednesday night, Chris retained his Brawl Star title with a come-from-behind board-top as Italy. Check out the game summary for all the coverage from the third annual Bar Room Brawl championship game.

Be the Shark
Meanwhile, for the first time in the brief history of the bar league championship game, we fielded an Undercard game. The players who came out — including two first-time Weasels and three others who joined the club last year — had the opportunity to step into the role of the shark, as the usual heavyweights were duking it out in the championship game. Check out the game report to see who rose to the challenge.

New Year’s Dip
We’ve scheduled two games for January. Matt Sundstrom will host a game at his place in Glenview on January 2, beginning at Noon. Then on January 13, we’ll play the first bar game of 2016 at the Red Lion. That one will start at 6:30 and end no later than 11.

We may also schedule a bar game with an early start time for December 30. Stay tuned for that announcement.

Dues Still Due
Great news! The PayPal link on the membership appeal page is finally working! That means your excuse for not yet paying your 2016 dues no longer works.

Once again, we’re charging $25 for members and $10 for students. Dues will get you a combined $15 off of our two tournaments–CODCon in April ($5) and the World Diplomacy Championship at Weasel Moot X in June ($10)–plus eligibility for our season-ending awards and the Weasel Royale. And you’ll also help us maintain the website and keep our Meetup page.

You can PayPal your dues to wcwsneak@gmail.com. For your convenience, just use the button on this page. And please pay up soon. We depleted our treasury when we paid the first installment on the meeting space for WDC, and we have some bills to pay…

Help Needed!

  • Database. We still are looking for someone who can convert Matt’s rating system to a searchable, web-based database. Please email us at wcwsneak@gmail.com if you can help or have questions. (Ben DiPaola has nibbled on this one…)

That’s all for this week.
