The Weekly Weasel — Week of Aug. 24

Here’s the latest news from the Weasels.

The Season 11 Opening
Season 11 will open with three great opportunities to play Dip in just eight days.

We’re going to start by once again trying to pull off an outdoors game at the Chess Pavilion at North Avenue Beach. Longtime readers will recall that we were close to finally realizing this longtime dream of mine last September but that my daughter, Jane, arrived the day before we were to play, a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. So now we’re going to try again. If you’re unfamiliar with the Chess Pavilion, check out this video. I’ve wanted to play Dip there since the first time I rode my bike past way back in 1994. Our game is scheduled for September 6, the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, starting at 11 a.m. I hope you can join us.

Three days later, we’ll reprise our popular Red Wednesday with Opening Night at the Red Lion. We need one more for the first board. As always, we’ll start at 6:30 p.m. and wrap up by 11.

Finally, on Sunday, September 13, we’ll celebrate the opening of the NFL season with a day of football and Diplomacy at Brian Beck’s home in Morton Grove. There will be grilling, promises Brian.

Make your plans to join us for one or more of these events. Let’s get the news season off to a great start.
