Here’s the latest news from the Weasels.
The Easter Lokken
Peter Lokken will host a game at his home in Logan Square on April 4, beginning at 11 a.m. until no later than 6 p.m. At least two new players will play. Peter will start with a rules explanation at 10 a.m. Experienced players should show up by 10:45 for a prompt start at 11.
Doing Time at Concentric
Five of us showed up at the Holiday Inn Itasca on Sunday for the Concentric game convention. Unfortunately, we were unable to recruit any of the other attendees for a game of Diplomacy, so instead Tony Prokes, Brad Harrington, Chris Cantine, and Kevin and I played other games. My favorite was Room 25, a semi-cooperative hidden role game in which we played characters trapped in a deadly prison on a futuristic reality game show. It was a lot of fun. I’m sure you’ll get plenty of chances to play it between rounds at CODCon.
CODCon Countdown
Speaking of CODCon, we’re less than three weeks out. Have you made your plans to join us? Take a look at the list of confirmed attendees, then let us know if you’re coming! We’re closing in on three boards per round.
This year’s open will be April 11-12 at the Student Resource Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, 425 W. Fawell Blvd. We’ll play two rounds on Saturday with a hard ending at midnight, and one on Sunday. The tournament will end no later than 4 p.m. on Sunday.
We’ll start things off with open gaming Friday night in either Oak Brook or Downers Grove, and we’ll have an after-party Saturday night in one of those two spots. In previous years, Junta, Imperial, Civilization and Cards against Humanity all have hit the table after hours. (I’m sure we’ll play Room 25, too. It’s a perfect downtime game for Diplomacy players.) For many of us, the after-parties are the best part of CODCon and sometimes the reason why the LARPers aren’t the only zombies in attendance the next day.
While we gear CODCon toward our local players to give them valuable tournament experience, travelers are more than welcome. We’re expecting at least three travelers this year.
Hope to see you there!
No Foolin’! April’s Red Wednesday
April’s Red Wednesday will be on the first Wednesday rather than the second. Please come out for an evening of Dip and Drinks on April Fool’s Day. No joke. As always, we will start at 6:30 p.m. and end no later than 11. Who’s in?
Moot Preregistration Is Now Open
Hroom, Hroom! You know what that call means. The Weasels are gathering, and you have been summoned. Weasel Moot IX will be June 13-14 in the Atrium at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Housing is available in the attached dorm, but only if you preregister, which you may do now.
You can get a single room at the dorm for $41 per night or share a double for $30. (In either case, you’ll be sharing a bathroom with another room.) The website lists other housing options for those who are done with dorm-style living.
Dues Are Due
Dues for 2015 are now due. We’ve kept our rates the same. A regular membership will cost you $25; the student rate is just $10. Dues will get you a discount on our tournament entry fees ($10 value!), eligibility for club awards and the Weasel Royale championship game, and–when we think of it–first crack at our house games. Dues pay for our club awards, the Meetup group, our website, and the Royale award and hosting subsidy. Please consider paying dues today. You may do so via PayPal here or by giving cash to a member of the Sneak. Thank you to the 18 Weasels who have paid up so far! We appreciate your support.
