Lots of big news this week. Enjoy!
Moot Preregistration Is Now Open
Hroom, Hroom! You know what that call means. The Weasels are gathering, and you have been summoned. Weasel Moot IX will be June 13-14 in the Atrium at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Housing is available in the attached dorm, but only if you preregister, which you may do now.
You can get a single room at the dorm for $41 per night or share a double for $30. (In either case, you’ll be sharing a bathroom with another room.) The website lists other housing options for those who are done with dorm-style living.
Ali and the Red Wednesday Miracle
We witnessed a miracle at last week’s Red Wednesday, and it wasn’t that Ali Adib topped the board or that we didn’t need Matt Sundstrom or me to make seven. Check out the game summary to learn what happened that night that defied the laws of science and nature.
We’ve updated the Bar Room Brawl standings for the first time since December’s two-board session. Check it out.
Dip at Concentric
Hey, we need three of you to step up so we can make this game Sunday at Concentric happen. We’re hoping to start at 1 p.m. and wrap up by 6, when the small con closes. Admission to Concentric, which will be at the Holiday Inn Itasca, costs $20.
CODcon kicks off in 3 1/2 weeks. Have you made your plans to join us? This year’s open, our ninth, will be April 11-12 at the Student Resource Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, 425 W. Fawell Blvd. (The COD in CODCon stands for College of DuPage, by the way.) We’ll play two rounds on Saturday with a hard ending at midnight, and one on Sunday. The tournament will end no later than 4 p.m. on Sunday.
We’ll start things off with open gaming Friday night in either Oak Brook or Downers Grove, and we’ll have an after-party Saturday night in one of those two spots. In previous years, Junta, Imperial, Civilization and Cards against Humanity all have hit the table after hours. For many of us, those gatherings are the best part of CODCon and sometimes the reason why the LARPers aren’t the only zombies in attendance the next day.
While we gear CODCon toward our local players to give them valuable tournament experience, travelers are more than welcome. Hope to see you there!
No Foolin’! April’s Red Wednesday Moves to New Night
We’re changing things up in April. Instead of its usual second Wednesday of the month, April’s Red Wednesday will occur on the first Wednesday, which is April 1. And no, this is not a joke. The 8th is just three days before CODCon, so we decided to move up Red Wednesday to put some space between the two events. As a bonus, it will fall on April Fool’s Day. Hipster John Gramila will host the event and has offered to provide a prize for a fool to be named later. As always, we will start at 6:30 p.m. and end no later than 11. Who’s in?
Dues Are Due
Dues for 2015 are now due. We’ve kept our rates the same. A regular membership will cost you $25; the student rate is just $10. Dues will get you a discount on our tournament entry fees ($10 value!), eligibility for club awards and the Weasel Royale championship game, and, when we think of it, first crack at our house games. Dues pay for our club awards, the Meetup group, our website, and the Royale award and hosting subsidy. Please consider paying dues today. You may do so via PayPal here or by giving cash to a member of the Sneak. Thank you to the 18 Weasels who have paid up so far, including Rob Chase! We appreciate your support.
