It takes resilience to play this game. Persistence doesn’t hurt either. Case in point, Nelson Flynn. He rediscovered the game and connected with us last summer after reading the Grantland article. But in three rounds at Weasel Moot and another game at the Pyle a couple of weeks later, he was eliminated in 1903, 1906, 1904 and 1904. Not a warm welcome back. At Saturday’s game in Downers Grove, however, he was in like, well, Flynn. Check out the game summary.
Dip at Concentric
Short notice, but Tony Prokes once again will host a board (or more if there’s interest) of Diplomacy at the small Concentric game convention. Join him on March 22 at the Holiday Inn Itasca. The game(s) will start at 1 p.m. and end no later than 6. Admission to Concentric is $20.
Weasel Moot is going to college! The ninth installment of our premier event will be June 13-14 at the University of Illinois-Chicago. We’ll be playing in the Atrium at Student Center East, 750 S. Halsted. Housing in the dorm on site will cost $41 per night for a single, $30 to share a room.
Access to access to public transportation is easy, and there’s lots of relatively inexpensive parking. And for those travelers who don’t want to do dorm-style living, there are three hotels — a Holiday Inn, a Crowne Plaza and a Marriott — within a mile.
But First, There’s CODCon
I know what you’re thinking. "Weasel Moot sounds awesome! I can’t believe I have to wait, like, three months!"
Well, guess what? You can get your fix in a lot sooner than that and tune up for Moot in the process. Our minor tournament, the CODCon Open, kicks off a month from tomorrow.
This year’s open will be April 11-12 at the Student Resource Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, 425 W. Fawell Blvd. (The COD in CODCon stands for College of DuPage, by the way.) We’ll play two rounds on Saturday with a hard ending at midnight, and one on Sunday. The tournament will end no later than 4 p.m. on Sunday.
We’ll kick things off with open gaming Friday night in either Oak Brook or Downers Grove, and we’ll have an after-party Saturday night in one of those two spots. In previous years, Junta, Imperial, Civilization and Cards against Humanity all have hit the table after hours. For many of us, those gatherings are the best part of CODCon and sometimes the reason why the LARPers aren’t the only zombies in attendance the next day.
Make your plans to join us!
We currently have nine for tomorrow night’s game at the Red Lion, so that means either we have good cushion for one board or a head start on a second. Does anyone else want to join us? As always, we will start at 6:30 p.m. and end no later than 11.
Dues Are Due
Dues for 2015 are now due. We’ve kept our rates the same. A regular membership will cost you $25; the student rate is just $10. Dues will get you a discount on our tournament entry fees ($10 value!), eligibility for club awards and the Weasel Royale championship game, and, when we think of it, first crack at our house games. Dues pay for our club awards, the Meetup group, our website, and the Royale award and hosting subsidy. Please consider paying dues today. You may do so via PayPal at the website or by giving cash to a member of the Sneak. Thank you to the 17 Weasels who have paid up so far! We appreciate your support.
