Nate, you suck. I’ve wanted to do this for a long, long time, and you went and scheduled it for a day filled with conflicts for me. I’ll see what I can do.
Also, while an 11 a.m. start time undoubtedly is better for you and the other degenerates likely to play in this game, I think you’re better off with an earlier start to ensure that you get a good spot in the pavilion.
Turns out Nate can’t play on Saturday the 20th, so we’re moving this to Sunday the 21st. Meghan did say that if she goes into labor, I’ll have to leave early. I told her that depends on how I’m doing.
When I first moved to the city in 1994, I was also reading Richard Sharp’s The Game of Diplomacy. I can recall riding my bike past the Chess Pavilion and thinking, “It would be pretty cool to play Dip there.” Twenty years later, and I’ll finally get the chance. Who’s in?

Just took that pic today on our lakefront ride. Beautiful day and a lovely spot for a game of Diplomacy. Can’t wait!
We’re full now; standbys/spectators wanted. Forecast says it could be 80 on Sunday…
Back down to six. Who wants to round out the board?
We’re back at seven, and the number includes two of the new Weasels from last week, so that’s a good sign. They like us, they really, really like us.
We could use one more player as a potential standby, and if you come and we have eight, we can get you in. Someone will certainly sit out. The baby is due in two weeks, but we’re expecting her to come sooner than that, and Meghan is thinking tonight could be the night…
We are going to reschedule this game, as the early arrival of Baby Jane knocked out our seventh player. š³
