The Weekly Weasel — Week of Aug. 25

I’m home with Patrick today, so welcome to a brief, nap-time edition of the Weekly Weasel.

If That Diamond Ring Ain’t Bright…
…Something that ends with Opening Night. Season 10 tips off September 10 at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square, and we’re on our way to a second board. We have eight; if we can get four to six more, we can field two boards.

In addition to the start of our 10th season, we’ll also be celebrating the club’s ninth birthday and Prime Weasel Nate Cockerill’s homecoming. Come on out and help us welcome at least two new players to the Weasels. The games will begin at 6:30 and end no later than 11.

The Itsy, Bitsy Spider…
…Played in the Undercard. And by topping the board, he launched a successful campaign to make the next year’s Royale! In four of the first five Undercards, the board-topper has indeed gone on to qualify for the Royale. Only Mark Weiskircher two years ago bucked that trend, and that’s likely because the Undercard was the only game he played that season. Like the old joke goes, God can guarantee that you’ll win the lottery, but you still have to buy a ticket.

We currently have four signed up for the Undercard, which will start right after the power selection ceremony for the Royale at approximately 11 a.m. on November 1. Both games will be held at Dan Burgess’ home in Downers Grove.

Hosts Needed
We’d like to schedule some house games for the Fall, including one that will be a tablet game hosted by webdiplomacy.net. (B.Y.O. Device.) If you’d like to step up and host a game for the club, please email me off the list.

Dues
Finally, a big Weasel thank you to the 29 people who paid club dues for 2014. Their support makes so much of what we do possible: The Meetup site, the website, our annual club awards, the Royale, and the Bar Room Brawl. Thanks, Guys!

That’s all for this week.

Jim
