Weasel Moot VIII is this weekend, and so far, 26 players have answered the summons. (Hroom, Hroom!) That number includes seven travelers, four of whom are first-time Mooters.
Check out the list of confirmed attendees, and if your name isn’t on it but should be, let me know.
Social Media
Speaking of hashtags, the official ones for this weekend are #MootHappens, #SummonTheWeasels and #WeAreAllWeasels. Please tag your posts on Facebook and Twitter with the appropriate one.
Weekend Housing
If you have a room and are looking for a roommate for the weekend or would like to get a room and split the cost with someone, please let me know. At this point, rooms are pretty pricey all around the venue. I’m checking with our meeting planners at work to see if I can get a deal on rooms at the new Lincoln Hotel. In the meantime, you may want to check out airbnb.
It’s Time to Moot. Woot!
Weasel Moot tips off Saturday at 9:45 a.m. Check in by 9:30. The event will be at the Hampton Inn and Suites at 33 W Illinois, right in the heart of Chicago’s River North neighborhood. Check out the event page on Facebook for some pretty good content posted by Prime Weasel Nate Cockerill, including a great photo of the terrace lounge where I suspect many a tall tale will be told that weekend.
This year’s event will feature two rounds on Saturday and one on Sunday. On Friday, three of our travelers — Edwin Turnage of South Carolina and Frank Grek and Cam Rowlands of Toronto — will take in the Cubs-Cardinals game at 3:05. I still have one more ticket for the game. Paul Pignotti currently has dibs, but if another traveler wants it, I’ll give it to him. The seats are great: Section 14, Row 10, Seats 107 through 110.
After the game, we may hit some breweries. (I have to pick up Graham Woodring at O’Hare at 5:38 p.m., but after that, I plan to link up with the ballgame crew.) Eventually, I’d like to end up at Blue Frog’s Local 22 karaoke bar, which is right by the Hampton Inn. Several locals have expressed interest in going out Friday night. Let me know if you can join us, and we’ll work out the details.
Check out the site and go ahead and preregister. You’ll save $5.

Important Dates
- July 26-27: Weasel Moot VIII at the Hampton Inn and Suites downtown.
- August 9: Weasel Pyle Nine!
Pyle the Ninth!
Founding Weasel Eric Brown will once again host our club’s happiest tradition. The ninth annual season-ending Weasel Pyle will be August 9 at Eric’s beautiful home in bucolic Wayne. We’ll start play at 11 a.m. and wrap up no later than 10.
In addition to the boards — one of which will be our 250th league game — we’ll hand out our annual club awards, The Weasels; announce the bids for the Weasel Royale and Bar Room Brawl championship games; strike the Regimental Choir; and engage in all sorts of merrymaking. You don’t want to miss this.
Look Sharp and Carry a Big Stick
Good news for all you fashionably minded Weasels out there. We’re now selling t-shirts at spreadshirt.com. A small commission from each sale will benefit the club, so you can look good and feel good about helping us out. But mostly you’ll look good, and that’s what matters most, right? I’ll be sporting my new shirts at Weasel Moot.
Dues
Dues are due. Check out the Prime’s message, then use the convenient PayPal link to pay your 2014 dues. We’re once again charging $25, $10 if you’re a student. Twenty-two people have paid up already.
Remember,in addition to getting you a $5 discount at Moot, your dues pay for our website, the Meetup site, our annual club awards, and the awards for both the Royale and the Brawl, among other things.
That’s all for this week. Hope to see you on Saturday!
Jim
