The Weekly Weasel — Week of Jan. 6

And along comes the Weekly Weasel to warm your soul. Enjoy.

That Feeling You Get When Everything Goes Your Way
We had two guests of honor and a brand-new player for our rare Saturday night bar game at the Red Lion, but it was Matt Sundstrom who got the red-carpet treatment. The Germans opened to Holland; the Turks to Constantinople and Ankara; the Austrians to Trieste; and the Italians to Tyrolia and Venice. Guess which country Matt was playing…and who topped the board.

A Brawl of Two
The 2014 Bar Room Brawl Series is starting to look more like a duel than a rumble. Sundstrom won the latest battle, but Prime Weasel Nate Cockerill still managed to extend his lead in the war. Check out the standings through seven games.

CODCon is Coming
Our eighth annual CODCon Open Diplomacy tournament is just three months away. Last year was a down year for our minor tournament as we managed just 15 players and five boards, but we expect to be back up in the seven- to nine-board range this year. Make your plans to join us April 5-6 at the College of DuPage’s CODCon gaming convention. Two rounds Saturday, one on Sunday, and if that weren’t enough, a Friday night appetizer of Civilization or Junta. Or both.

Upcoming Games

  • Jan. 11 at Matt Kade’s home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, starting at 11 a.m. Full. Standbys welcome.
  • Jan. 19 at Dan Burgess’ home in Downers Grove, starting at 11 a.m. Have three.

Sign up for games here, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Dan Burgess, danburgess67@gmail.com).

Important Dates

  • April 5-6: The eighth annual CODCon Open Diplomacy tournament at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.

Dues
We hope to send out our annual e-appeal for 2014 dues in the next month or two. In the meantime, you can use the PayPal link we set up for 2013 to pay your 2014 dues. We’re still charging $25, $10 if you’re a student. Thirteen people already have paid their dues, including Craig Reges and Don Glass. Thanks, Guys!

That’s all for this week.

Jim
