Much thanks to Ben DiPaola for claiming the 7th position. We didn’t show much gratitude over the board. But it helps to have people that are willing to fill games. Ben is a star that way.

Don’t usually comment on too many games but something has to be said about the Spring 1901 openings of Russia and Italy. Influenced the rest of the game.

Sev-Bla, Mos-Ukr, maybe War-Gal. But StP-Bar was devastating. Yes, we put the fleet on the north coast at the beginning of 1901. But Ben has played too many games to get a pass on that.

Ven-Tri, Rome-Tus, F: Ven-Ion. I’m not entirely sure about any of these except F Ven-Ion. Wouldn’t put it past Nate to misdirect like this. But it’s just too awful to be much more than a mistake. In retrospect, I wonder if we should have allowed Venice to do anything. But Naples did nothing.

France went south immediately with the comment “I know Nate (Italy) will stab me. You (England) might. Going to kill the 100% stabber.”

France did that and doubled down with F MAO-WME in the fall. Passed on two builds in Iberia and built Mar with his one new center. I took advantage of that and Russia’s error to go from 5 to 8.

Once at 8, I attacked Germany in 1903 as the last big enemy anywhere near me. Way too early to do it but wouldn’t be possible later. Ended up fighting most everyone in the west from there on out. John in Turkey just followed up in the east as that happened. His 14th was stabbing Germany for Berlin in the last year.

    Thanks all for coming out.
