The Weekly Weasel — Week of Aug. 19

Read on for the latest news from the Weasels

Season Nine Is Coming
If you’re Facebook feed is anything like mine, then it’s been lighting up with lamentations from your teacher friends who are heading back to school. Well, not unlike those poor bastards, we’ll be returning to the Dip table soon, so I hope you’re making the most of our brief off-season. We’ve already scheduled two tilts for Season Nine, and more games are coming, so keep your eyes open.

Opening Night at the Bar Room Brawl Championship
We’re going to kick off the new season on Sept. 4 at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square, home of our inaugural Bar Room Brawl championship game. In fact, the championship will also be played on the 4th, so make your plans to join us at the Lion. We’ll start the championship game at 6 p.m., or as close to it as we can. Six of the seven finalists have already confirmed. We expect Christian Kline, the seventh, to play as well, but just in case, alternates Keith Ammann, Peter Lokken and Chris Kelly ought to sharpen their knives. We’ll call them in that order if Kline or any of the others drop out.

Meanwhile, we already have five for the regular season opener, plus one other who is waiting on a pending conflict to confirm. If you want to play in the opener, speak up soon. That game, which will count toward the Season Nine standings and the 2014 Brawl Series — unlike the Brawl championship, which is considered a Premiere game and thus does not count for the standings — will start around 6:30. Both games will end no later than 11. Hope to see you there! Our Season Eight Weasel of the Year started his winning campaign by topping a board on Opening Night. This year, it could be you, but only if you come out and play.

The Fifth Annual Undercard game at the Weasel Royale
The 2013 Weasel Royale club championship game is set for Oct. 26 at Dan Burgess’ home in Downers Grove. For the fifth straight year, we’re also fielding an Undercard game, which will count toward the Season Nine standings (again, unlike the Royale, which is a Premiere game). In three of the previous four years, the player who topped the Undercard went on to qualify for the next season’s Royale. Once again, this year, it could be you, but only if you sign up.

We’ll start the Royale with the selection ceremony at 11 a.m. The Undercard will begin right after that.

Just Dues It
Thank you to the 27 Weasels who paid dues in 2013. We appreciate your support.

If you’d like to support the Weasels but missed out on the opportunity to receive a discount at our tournaments or qualify for an annual Weasels club award or a spot in the Weasel Royale club championship, then we’ll gladly take your $25 ($10 if you’re a student) now and apply it toward the 2014 calendar-year dues.

Your dues help pay for our annual club awards, the Meetup site, our website, and other club activities. Help us out by paying your dues today.  Use the PayPal link online or give your dues to a Sneak member.
