It all Comes down to This
Season Eight tipped off way back in September with a two-board session at Guthrie’s Tavern. Nate Cockerill and Chris Kelly grabbed the board tops on Opening Night, while our special guest — the Australian Peter McNamara, who was in town for a conference – settled for a strong second. (On his return for CODCon in April, McNamara was second to none.)
Over the next 11 months, we’d play 22 more games. A total of 58 players have put pen to paper in Season Eight, and 18 of them have grabbed at least a share of a board top, including another visitor in May, our old friend Alex Amann.
Cockerill fell out of first place in Game No. 3, but he never strayed farther than third, and on May 1, he regained the lead. He held it for 2 ½ months, but in the season’s penultimate game, Matt Sundstrom took it back. Sundstom previously had held first for 4 1/2 months.
Now, Just seven points separate them as we head into the season-ending Weasel Pyle this Saturday at Brown Manor in Wayne, but they’re not the only contenders. The top six all will be at the Pyle this weekend, and any one of them could seize the Weasel of the Year title and the top seed in the Weasel Royale with a large board top. And most of the rest of the attendees, the paid-up members at least, could win the title by soloing.
It should be an interesting Pyle.
Last Call for Candidates!
If you’re interested in running for the Sneak, you have until tomorrow night at 7 p.m. to declare your intention. Three seats are opening, and at the moment, we only have two candidates. You gotta like those odds. If you want to help steer the club into the future, click here for more information.
Dues Are Due
Your 2013 membership dues are now due. Once again, we’re charging $25 for the calendar year, $10 for students. Paid-up members are eligible for our annual Weasels club awards and to compete in the Weasel Royale club championship game. I can tell you that right now, one of the best country awards is held by someone who hasn’t paid his dues. Dues-paying members may also run for the Sneak (did you hear about the election?) and can cast votes in the election.
Your dues help pay for our annual club awards, the Meetup site, our website, and other club activities. Help us out by paying your dues today. Twenty-five Weasels (thanks, Ulysses!) have paid up so far! Use the PayPal link online or give your dues to a Sneak member.
