Sundstrom recaptures lead with one event left

Two-time Weasel of the Year Matt Sundstrom turned in his best performance of the year in Season Eight’s penultimate game, racking up 50 points with a 12-center German board top. With the haul, he regained possession of the season’s Best Germany award and vaulted past Nate Cockerill into first place in the standings. Heading into the Pyle, he leads Cockerill by about 7 points.

Game No. 217 was played July 17 at the Red Lion. The supply center chart currently is lost, but based on conversations with several of the players, I believe the game ended after the Fall 1906 turn in the following center counts:

Austria (Don Glass): 0; 0.000 points.
England (Josh Heffernan): 2; 1.399 points.
France (Colin from the Red Lion): 2; 0.000 points.
Germany (Matt Sundstrom): 12; 50.350 points.
Italy (Eamon Driscoll): 5; 8.741 points.
Russia (Nate Cockerill): 3; 3.147 points.
Turkey (David St. John): 10; 34.965 points.

Sundstrom now has three and a half board tops on the season.

David St. John, our latest Meetup recruit, was playing his first face-to-face game since 1996, when he was a teenager. Colin was a last-minute pickup at the bar.

The incomplete supply center chart is here. If anyone can help flesh it out, please contact me. This chart is the first to go missing in 217 games.

Also, if you’re playing in a game, don’t rely on someone else to submit the results. Take a page from Peter Lokken’s book: Take a photo of the chart with your phone, and text it to me. I’ll take if from there.

Next up for the Weasels is the season-ending Weasel Pyle in Wayne. It’s scheduled for Aug. 10, and we need three more players for the second board.

With the game sheet lost we can’t have an official score from a photo and recollection. These current standings are null and void and we must revert back to the standings before game 217.

We recovered the supply center chart, and I’ve updated the count and scores for this game.
