Here’s the latest news from the Weasels.
Words to Live By
Not only did my 12-year-old son, Kevin, top yesterday’s Game No. 215, his second top of the season, but he also vaulted into third place in the league, grabbed possession of a second best country award, and coined House O’Kelley’s words. For those of you who are missing out, that last one is a reference to A Game of Thrones. Check out the recap.
T-12
Our seventh annual Weasel Moot tournament is just 12 days away. (Doesn’t it seem like just a few months ago that we were stabbing each other in the beautiful Florentine Room at the Congress Plaza Hotel for World Dip Con at Weasel Moot VI?) We’re now working on a sixth board. Thirty-six players have committed. Take a look at the guest list. It features quite a few local players, but also a number of travelers, headed up by Chris Glassburn of Ohio, who hasn’t missed a Moot. Only five others, all locals, can make that claim (Nick Rohn, Matt Sundstrom, Christian Kline, Kevin O’Kelly and me).
Also coming from Ohio are Eric Grinnell, whom I first met at World DipCon at Dixie Con in 1998, and his son Danny, whom I just met at this year’s Dixie. They’re driving in from Cincinnati.
We’ve got five high schoolers from Indianapolis coming up, either by car or train. They sort of remind me of the Milwaukee Mafia, the group of kids who attended our first CODCon in 2007 and have supported our tournaments (and even played in some of our house games) ever since.
Speaking of them, their don is one of three Wisconsinites known to be coming. The other two are our club’s first soloist and a former Bull Weasel.
Two-time CODCon champion Mike French of St. Louis completes the list of known Midwesterners traveling to the tournament.
Flying in from the East Coast are Graham Woodring of the Long Island Woodrings; Buffalo, Chris Martin and Peter Yeargin from the D.C. area; and Melinda Holley from Delaware. Roland Cooke, the British transplant, is flying in from Houston, and Edi Birsan is coming from the Bay Area.
We’re looking forward to playing with all of them.
The Moot will be June 22-23 at the Holiday Inn in west suburban Willowbrook. Preregistration will save you $5, $2 if you’re a student. You can preregister through PayPal via a link on the website. You’ll find more information at the website, and general kibitzing on Facebook.
Dues Are Due
Your 2013 membership dues are now due. Once again, we’re charging $25 for the calendar year, $10 for students. Paid-up members receive a $5 discount at Weasel Moot, get first crack at all our game openings, and are eligible for our annual Weasels club awards and to compete in the Weasel Royale club championship game. Your dues help pay for our annual club awards, the Meetup site, our website, and other club activities. Help us out by paying your dues today. Twenty-three Weasels have paid up so far! Use the PayPal link online or give your dues to a Sneak member.
