The Weekly Weasel — Week of May 27

Here’s the latest news from the Weasels.

Take Two
Since we fell one short of fielding a game on Memorial Day at Matt Sundstrom’s home and because original Weasel Eric Brown has a rare weekend pass, we’re going to try again this Saturday at Dan Burgess’ home in Downers Grove, starting at 11 a.m. Want to play?

Volunteer Needed
Old friend Aash Anand will be in town the weekend of June 8, and he’d like to play Dip with us. I potentially could host a game that Friday night, June 7. If I host, the game would probably have a hard ending of 1 a.m. or so. We learned our lesson in Game No. 171. Is anyone else able to host a traditional Saturday game instead? If so, please speak up.

Weasel Moot VII–Housing Alert
Our room block for Weasel Moot expires on Friday, at which point the room rate will shoot up to $155 per night from $119. Book your room by calling 630-325-6400. Mention Windy City Weasels to get our room rate. (Note: If you have any trouble with the hotel, call 630-321-7014 and ask for Debbie Gallo. She’s handling our account. A couple of people have been told that only one room, a single, remained in our block, which isn’t true. If the hotel tells you that, call Debbie. She’ll set you up.)

The Moot will be here in three and a half weeks. It will be June 22-23 at the Holiday Inn in west suburban Willowbrook. Preregistration will save you $5, $2 if you’re a student. You can preregister through PayPal via a link on the website.

You’ll find more information here, and general kibitzing on Facebook.

Dixie Details
Speaking of tournaments, the 27th DixieCon was last weekend in Chapel Hill. I attended with my son Kevin, who was one of five kids from 11 to 14 in attendance. He had a blast and even played Dip during the second round, earning a four-center survival as Turkey.

The event fielded nine boards over the three rounds, with 23 players participating. I finished 10th. If I get a chance, I’ll write a recap for the website.

Dues Are Due
Your 2013 membership dues are now due. Once again, we’re charging $25 for the calendar year, $10 for students. Paid-up members receive a $5 discount at Weasel Moot, get first crack at all our game openings, and are eligible for our annual Weasels club awards and to compete in the Weasel Royale club championship game. Your dues help pay for our annual club awards, the Meetup site, our website, and other club activities. Help us out by paying your dues today. Twenty-one Weasels have paid up so far! Use the PayPal link online or give your dues to a Sneak member.

Upcoming Games

  • June 1 at Dan Burgess’ home in Downers Grove, beginning at 11 a.m. Have two.

Sign up for games at the website, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Nate Cockerill, nathancockerill@yahoo.com).

Important Dates

  • June 22-23: The seventh annual Weasel Moot. Hroom, hroom.

That’s all for this week. See you next week.

Jim
