What a Difference a Week Makes
Two Wednesdays ago, Ted "Cake" Phillips squandered a board-leading Russian position by writing a club record seven misorders and also earned himself his less-than-flattering nickname for bringing a Strawberry Shortcake notebook to the game. It was a tough night. Fortunately for Ted, with the Weasels, one doesn’t have to wait long for a shot at redemption. That shot came a week later at the Red Lion, and this time, Cake had his cake and ate it, too. Check out the game report.
Memorial Day at Matt’s
Looking for something to do on Memorial Day? Matt Sundstrom is hosting a game at his place in Glenview. We need four more players to make it happen. Who’s interested? The game will start at 11 a.m.
Speaking of…
Speaking of Memorial Day, My son, Kevin, and I decided to road-trip to Chapel Hill for DixieCon. I’ll try to chronicle the father-son bonding on Twitter at either @WindyCityWeasel or @JimTheGrey. Haven’t decided which, so follow both if you want to see my dispatches.
Weasel Moot VII
Only 32 days till Weasel Moot VII, June 22-23 at the Holiday Inn in west suburban Willowbrook. Nine travelers have preregistered and/or shared their itineraries with me, and we’re expecting more to do so soon. Edi Birsan is the latest to commit. It’s shaping up to be another big tournament. You’ll save $5 if you preregister, $2 if you’re a student. You can preregister through PayPal via a link on the website.
Also, don’t delay in booking a room at the Holiday Inn. Our block expires on May 31. The room rate is $119 per night for a single or double. It will go up to $155 per night on June 1. You can book a room by calling 630-325-6400. Mention Windy City Weasels to get our room rate.
You’ll find more information here, and general kibitzing on Facebook.
Dues Are Due
Your 2013 membership dues are now due. Once again, we’re charging $25 for the calendar year, $10 for students. Paid-up members receive a $5 discount at Weasel Moot, get first crack at all our game openings, and are eligible for our annual Weasels club awards and to compete in the Weasel Royale club championship game. Your dues help pay for our annual club awards, the Meetup site, our website, and other club activities. Help us out by paying your dues today. Twenty-one Weasels (thanks, Matt Kade!) have paid up so far! Use the PayPal link online or give your dues to a Sneak member.

So Jim is training up his son, and on the other side of the atlantic, Toby Harris is training up his own. Is this the start of a new breed of super-player?
A question to put out there: Out of Jim, Toby and their sons, who will be the first to win Worlds?
