The Weekly Weasel — Week of April 15

Just a short issue this week, as I have to pack.

Black Jack!
Our head count for this weekend’s CODCon Open is 21. Can we pad that number with a few more of you to give us a better shot at hitting three boards in one or two of the rounds? Check out the list of attendees and more information. One neat thing about the list of attendees is all the new names on it. We have people traveling to the event from Ames, Madison and Peoria, plus three locals who haven’t yet played tournament Diplomacy and another who hasn’t played in a tournament since the second Open back in 2008. You may actually need to read those CODCon name badges this year.

Shameless Plugs
We’re introducing a new feature here at The Weekly Weasel — Shameless Plugs. Enjoy.

My sister Tricia’s latest project is a YouTube show called Bitter Party of Five. She stars with four fellow refugees from Roseanne’s failed 2012 pilot, Downwardly Mobile. Each episode is less than 10 minutes and takes place in Tricia’s living room as she and her castmates interview industry friends of theirs who are more successful than they are. Past episodes have featured Martha Plimpton, Stephen Root and Rachael Harris. Check it out.

My second plug is for my son Kevin’s gaming website. He’s maintained the site for several months now, and he’d like some visitors. So, next time you’re killing time on the web, drop by his site and check out his video game reviews and musings.

Weasel Moot VII
We’re not screwing around this year. Weasel Moot VII, our club’s signature event, will be held just nine week’s after CODCon. The tournament will be June 22-23 at the Holiday Inn in the western suburb of Willowbrook. Preregistration is now open. You can preregister through PayPal via a link on the website. You’ll find more information at the website, and general kibitzing on Facebook.

Dues Are Due
Your 2013 membership dues are now due. Once again, we’re charging $25 for the calendar year, $10 for students. Paid-up members receive a discount at CODCon and Weasel Moot, get first crack at all our game openings, and are eligible for our annual Weasels club awards and to compete in the Weasel Royale club championship game. Your dues help pay for our annual club awards, the Meetup site, our website, and other club activities. Help us out by paying your dues today. Eighteen Weasels have paid up so far! We will be accepting dues payments at CODCon.

Upcoming Games
None. Guess you better join us for CODCon.

Sign up for games at the website, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Nate Cockerill, nathancockerill@yahoo.com).

Important Dates

  • April 20-21: The seventh annual CODCon Open.
  • June 22-23: The seventh annual Weasel Moot. Hroom, hroom.

That’s all for this week. See you next week, when we should have a CODCon report for you.

Jim
