The Weekly Weasel — Week of March 25

Here’s the latest news from the Weasels.

Stranger Danger!
"Villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot," Captain Picard once told Lt. Worf. (Yes, I’m working a Star Trek reference into a Diplomacy e-newsletter. Nerd overload.) Not so much, the ones who wear smiles and carry candy in their pockets. Game No. 208, played Saturday at my place in Little Italy, was our second straight with a pair of pre-teens. One of them topped the board, and the other learned a valuable life lesson about taking candy from strangers. Check out the game summary.

March Madness Gets Nuts
Our sixth March Madness extravaganza ends Wednesday with a two-board session at the Red Lion. If you’ll be in the area, come on out and join the fun. So far, we’ve played three games with 15 unique players participating, including four new players.

CODCon Is Coming
Our seventh annual CODCon Open Diplomacy tournament tips off at the College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn in less than four weeks. Please make your plans to join us, and if you already know your plans, please share. We’re trying to get a handle on this year’s attendance for planning purposes. The dates are April 20-21, and the format will be the same as in past years, with the exception that there will be a hard ending of midnight for play on Saturday. We’ll be making a change to the published start time for the Saturday evening round. Stay tuned for that.

Weasel Moot VII
Preregistration is now open for Weasel Moot VII. You can preregister through PayPal via a link on the website. The tournament will be June 22-23 at the Holiday Inn in the western suburb of Willowbrook.

Dues Are Due
Your 2013 membership dues are now due. Once again, we’re charging $25 for the calendar year, $10 for students. Paid-up members receive a discount at CODCon and Weasel Moot, get first crack at all our game openings, and are eligible for our annual Weasels club awards and to compete in the Weasel Royale club championship game. Your dues help pay for our annual club awards, the Meetup site, our website, and other club activities. Help us out by paying your dues today. Fifteen Weasels have paid up so far!

Upcoming Games

  • March 27 at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square, beginning at 6:30 p.m. until no later than 11. Have 14.

Sign up for games at the website, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Nate Cockerill, nathancockerill@yahoo.com).

Important Dates

  • April 20-21: The seventh annual CODCon Open.
  • June 22-23: The seventh annual Weasel Moot. Hroom, hroom.

That’s all for this week. See you next week.

Jim
