The Weekly Weasel — Week of Jan. 14

Here’s the latest news from the Weasels.

The Clock Punches Back
Sometimes the clock punches back. Such was the case in last Saturday’s Game No. 202, played at hipster John Gramila’s home in Humboldt Park, as minuteman Ben DiPaola turned in his best impersonation of a London landmark. Called in as a standby the morning of the game, Big Ben drove his opponents cuckoo en route to a huge 65-point board top. Check out the game summary and chatter from some of the players.

Next Week’s Brawl Nears Two Boards
We’re at 10 for the Jan. 23 tilt at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square. Four more gets us to two boards. The games will start at 6:30 p.m. and end no later than 11. Who’s in?

Back to the Burbs for CODCon VII
If we’re counting the days till pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training, then that means CODCon can’t be far behind. And it’s not. We’re heading back to the College of Dupage for our seventh annual CODCon Open Diplomacy tournament, April 20-21. Check out the website for all the details, and make your plans to join us. (Also, you can save a buck or two on the CODCon convention fee by preregistering at www.codcon.com. You don’t even have to pay in advance. In this economy, who CAN’T use a couple of bucks?!?)

Weasel Moot Planning Hits a Snag
We had hoped to announce the dates for Weasel Moot VII in this issue. Unfortunately, we learned today that our old venue at the Days Inn is being converted into a breakfast room. The space will no longer work for us, so the Sneak is now looking at other possibilities. Stay tuned. Better yet, if you have any leads, let us know by emailing wcwsneak@gmail.com. We’re looking for around 1,900 square feet. Our price range is $500 to $750, total, and we’d prefer 24-hour access.

Upcoming Games

  • Jan. 23 at the Red Lion in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago, beginning at 6:30 p.m. until no later than 11. Have 10, need four more for a second board.
  • Feb. 2 at Ted McClelland’s home in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, beginning at 11 a.m. Have three.
  • Feb. 16 at Dan Burgess’ home in Downers Grove, beginning at 11 a.m. Have one.
Sign up for games at the website, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Nate Cockerill, nathancockerill@yahoo.com).

Important Dates

  • April 20-21: The seventh annual CODCon Open.

That’s all for this week. See you next week, when we’ll give you a Weasel Moot update and hopefully announce our March Madness schedule.
