The Weekly Weasel — Week of Dec. 24

I hope you’re having a great holiday season. I’ve been home with Kevin and Patrick. We alternate every other Christmas with Kevin, but due to a scheduling change a couple of years ago, this Christmas was our first with him since 2008. We’re having fun, but the late nights with the PS3 make for really early mornings with Patrick. I’m struggling today. Anyway, here’s the latest news from the Weasels.

Onward to 300
We’ll take our first step on the march to 300 games this Sunday at 11 a.m. at Matt Sundstrom’s home in Glenview. The game is full, but we can always use a standby or two just in case. Check out the lineup at the website.

Will the Weasels Rise to the Challenge?
Registration for the third Diplomacy World Cup play-by-email tournament opens on Jan. 7 (a day before the Winter premiere of Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family). The tournament organizer expects more than 500 participants in what is certain to be the largest tournament of its kind.

The tournament, which will be hosted by ASCII King Games on the AQMN "Aquaman" Diplomacy Adjudicator, is strictly a team event and is fashioned after the soccer  World Cup. Teams must consist of at least three players and will be organized by country, or region, or even club. Interested Weasels can learn more at the event website or its Facebook page. Would someone like to organize a team for the Weasels?

Desperately Seeking a Dip Game
Milwaukee Mafiamen Andrew Bartlein and Mike Sullivan are home for the holidays, and they and Andrew’s twin, Michael, are desperately seeking a game of Dip. Can we accommodate them? Is anyone interested in playing next week? Andrew flies back to Oregon on the 5th. I believe that day would work for Sully and Michael, but a weekday game could net all three. If you’re off next week and interested in playing and/or hosting, speak up.

Upcoming Games

  • Dec. 30 at Matt Sundstrom’s home in Glenview, beginning at 11 a.m. Full. Standbys needed.
  • Jan. 12 at John Gramila’s home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago, beginning at 11 a.m. Have five.
  • Feb. 2 at Ted McClelland’s home in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, beginning at 11 a.m. Have two.
Sign up for games at the website, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Nate Cockerill, nathancockerill@yahoo.com).

That’s all for this week.

Jim
