The Weekly Weasel — Week of Dec. 10

The Weasels were back in action yesterday. Read on.

Master of the House
Every Weasel knows that Prime Weasel Dan Burgess would rather stir chili in a pot than trouble on a Dipomacy board. He typically hosts at least five games per year, not counting the Royale, but he only plays in those games when absolutely necessary. Such was the case yesterday when hipster John Gramila went AWOL.

Burgess relcutantly traded his apron and ladle for pen and paper and sat down to play Diplomacy with us, drawing Turkey. And then, in honor of Les Miserables, which will hit theaters on Christmas Day, he magically transformed himself into the despicable Thenardier, cheating and stealing from his guests en route to a 10-center board-top. Check out the game summary and the early chatter.

The Bicentennial Game
Yesterday’s game was our club’s 199th. That’s just club, or "league," games. That number doesn’t count tournament games or our annual Weasel Royale. Among those 199 games, we’ve played just one variant–Colonial Diplomacy at Conception last year–and two six-player games. The other 196 have been classic seven-player games on the standard board.

Next week on the 18th, we’ll play our 200th game at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square. That game is now full, but we’re working on our 201st. Come on out and help us celebrate another landmark achievement for the club.

Upcoming Games
  • Dec. 18 at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square, beginning at 6:30 p.m until no later than 11. Have seven for our 200th game. Need six more for No. 201!

  • Jan. 12 at John Gramila’s home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. Have six.
Sign up for games at the website, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Nate Cockerill, nathancockerill@yahoo.com).

That’s all for this week.
Jim
