Here we are–a day late but totally worth the wait–with all the latest news from the Weasels.
‘Twas the Day before New Year’s
Punctuated by the World Diplomacy Championship at Weasel Moot VI, 2012 has been a memorable year for us, and we’re not quite ready to give it up. Matt Sundstrom will host one final 2012 game on Dec. 30 at his home in Glenview. Help us close the book on a great year by signing up.
Diplomacy on the Park
Get your Hipster on! John Gramila has moved into a gorgeous new apartment right on Humboldt Park, and he wants to show it off. Ring in the New Year with a game at his new digs on Jan. 12. For those of you traveling to the Masters Invitational the following weekend in New Orleans, this will be a great opportunity to tune up.
Bicentennial When?
The next game we play will be our 199th, which means our bicentennial game is on deck. Just when that will be is a bit uncertain. By any standard but our own, we’re having a good year. We’ve played five games (not including the Royale) in four events since Sept. 1. But we’ve also pulled the plug on a slew of games.
Partly due to burnout, partly a migration of active Weasels over the past three years to places like Detroit and Seattle and D.C. and the Ukraine and Denver, and partly a post-WDC hangover, we’re having trouble filling games. Our 199th should be tomorrow at Emmett’s in Downers Grove, which would make Dan’s game on Dec. 9 the bicentennial. However, only two people have signed up for the Emmett’s game. If we can’t fill it by this evening, we’ll pull the plug.
That would make Dan’s game the 199th. That game is currently full (although there’s room for you if you want in). In that case, Matt’s game on Dec. 30 would be the 200th. We may repeat history, however, by scheduling a bar game to celebrate our 200th. We should know more by next week, so stay tuned.
Game Openings
- Nov. 28 at Emmett’s Alehouse in Downers Grove, beginning at 6:30 p.m. until no later than 11. Need five. We will pull the plug tonight if this game doesn’t fill by then.
- Dec. 9 at Dan Burgess’ home in Downers Grove, beginning at 11 a.m. Have seven (plus Dan as our eighth), but one’s tentative, so speak up soon if you want that last spot.
- Dec. 30 at Matt Sundstrom’s home in Glenview, beginning at 11 a.m. Need four.
- Jan. 12 at John Gramila’s home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. Need six.
Sign up for games at the website, on Meetup, or by emailing your faithful War Weasel (which is now Nate Cockerill, nathancockerill@yahoo.com).
Important Dates
- Our 200th game is important, certainly, but as noted above, we’re not quite sure when it will be. Stay tuned.
That’s all for this week.
Jim

Don’t forget December 6th in Skokie!
I still say I can play via Skype if necessary and with warning.
