Sundstrom cracks Royale field

Matt Sundstrom followed his victory at CODCon by topping Board No. 181, played May 12 at John Gramila’s home in Logan Square. His 11-center Italy edged Ben DiPaola’s Russia by a center, but more important, it vaulted him into seventh place in the Season Seven standings. If he holds onto that spot, he’ll return to the Royale after a year off for another crack at the only Weasel title that has eluded him.

The game ended in Spring 1908 in the following center counts:

Austria (Nate Cockerill): 0; 0.000 points.
England (Aash Anand): 9; 25.962 points.
France (John Gramila): 3; 2.885 points.
Germany (Peter Lokken): 1; 0.321 points.
Italy (Matt Sundstrom): 11; 38.782 points.
Russia (Ben DiPaola): 10; 32.051 points.
Turkey (Don Glass): 0; 0.000 points.

Next up for the Weasels, we’ll close the month with a busy week. We have games scheduled for May 27 at Sundstrom’s home in Glenview, May 31 at Guthrie’s Tavern, and June 2 at Ted McClelland’s home in Rogers Park. You have two more months to crack the Royale Field.

Wow, not much separating 2-7 there. I love the club parity! You guys are keeping each other honest. šŸ™‚

Interesting choice of words, Peter. Not a lot of honesty among those top seven…
