Y stands for board top

Organized by founding Weasels and suburbanites Dan Burgess and Eric Brown, the club’s first bar game at Ballydoyle Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downers Grove was a smashing success. Kevin O’Kelly topped Game No. 116 as Russia, the Ice Queen’s (referring to Russia, not Kevin) second board top in as many nights. The game ended by draw vote during the Spring 1907 turn with the following center counts:

Austria (Mark Weiskircher): 7; 21.121 points.
England (Eric Brown): 6; 15.517 points.
France (John Riley): 7; 21.121 points.
Germany (Dan Burgess): 1; 0.431 points.
Italy (Todd Woodman): 4; 6.897 points.
Russia (Kevin O’Kelly): 9; 34.914 points.
Turkey (Nate Cockerill): 0; 0.00 points.

What a difference a night makes for Nate Cockerill. He topped last night’s game at Guthrie’s with 11 centers as Russia, and tonight, he gets knocked out in 1902. Ouch. And how about four games in nine days for the Weasels? Can we make it five in two weeks by pulling together a game next Tuesday? I wouldn’t bet against us.

The supply center chart is here, but it can’t tell us the story behind Nate’s brutal elimination. That’s up to the players…

How on earth did Turkey manage to get eliminated in 2 years? I remember getting eliminated in 1904 as Turkey at the Moot when I got double teamed by A/I and then decided to give Italy (Christian Kline) 2 of my centers and go after Russia! And that was a suicide match for me.

It was pretty much a suicide from Nate also. Italy and I (Austria) were going to try a Lepanto variant on Turkey. After the first move, we bailed on that idea, but still worked together.

By Spr O2, we were working with Russia (Kevin) as well to just take out Turkey. I was in Bulgaria and Greece, and supported Italy into the Aegean to eventually take Smyrna. Nate decided to suicide CON and SMY to myself and Italy, if we would agree to turn on Russia.

We agreed, he moved out, we moved in, and then we allied with Russia to move against the Western powers. :p

I still think we would have had him out by the Fall of 03 even if he hadn’t suicided. It was three on 1 and the writing was on the wall for Turkey.
