Barfield Wins Tempest
Chris Barfield flew in from Ethiopia to participate in this year's Tempest in a Teapot in Silver Spring, Maryland. For his troubles, he got a solo in the second round and his first tournament championship.

Couldn't happen to a better person, as far as I'm concerned. I got to know him a little bit during a cigar break at WACCon a few years ago. He was working for the government of Saudi Arabia at the time, and I asked how that had happened. He explained that when the towers fell on 9-11, he decided to pursue Middle Eastern Studies and an eventual career in the Foreign Service.

He was only 13. I turn 48 tomorrow and still don't know what I want to do.

It's late, I'm late, so this will be brief.

When Bar Games Were Bar Games
Remember when we use to routinely field two boards at our bar games? Those were the days. Well, guess what? We currently have eight for next Wednesday's game at the Red Lion. Six more gives us a taste of the good old days. Who's in?

When September Ends
We pulled the plug on last Saturday's game at Peter Lokken's home as we only had five players. I read on Facebook that the Davismen showed up for the Wilsonian game at Conception. Not sure how that one turned out.

September Diplomacy is over when we say it's over. We squeezed in a third game last night in Peter Lokken's backyard in Logan Square. Check out the game coverage. And take a look at these September numbers:

  • Three games played.
  • 19 unique players.
  • Five new Weasels.

Season 11 is off to a great start.

Good News, Bad News, Great News
In a classic case of good news and bad news, Peter Lokken has some spare time on his hands and is itching to play Dip. The great news? Earlier this evening, we announced a game opening at his home in Logan Square for Monday night, the 28th. It filled in 23 minutes.

Keep an eye on the site as we'll likely open another game at his home next week or possibly even this weekend. When a man's gotta play, a man's gotta play.

Here's the latest news from the Weasels!

New Season off to Fast Start
The 11th season of Windy City Weasels Diplomacy opened last week with a couple of games. A total of 14 players participated in the two games.

We got the blood flowing last Wednesday with our Opening Night at the Red Lion. We had a total of 11, although two arrived late and one was just there to watch -- though that may change in the future. The first game of the 2016 Bar Room Brawl Series ended in a three-way tie at the top among Matt Sundstrom, Jake Trotta and newcomer Ryan Yates. (And speaking of the Brawl Series, we've yet to set a date for this year's championship game. Lining up seven schedules is a bit like herding cats.)

It's Opening Week! Read on.

Season 11 to Open Wednesday
We're closing in on two boards for opening night Wednesday at the Red Lion. Our current count is 12, including five new faces. Please join us if you can.

Pavilion Game Check Mated
The careful reader will wonder why the season didn't open yesterday with the scheduled game at the Chess Pavilion at North Avenue Beach. Unfortunately, we could only muster five players. We'll try again in the fall.

A slow news week for the Weasels as it's the calm before the storm of opening week.

Are You Ready for Some Diplomacy?
Ready or not, Season 11 will open next week. Perhaps as soon as Sunday, if we can scrounge up three more players for the scheduled game at the Chess Pavilion at North Avenue Beach. We knew it wouldn't be easy to fill a board on Labor Day Weekend. If we don't have seven by Friday, we'll pull the plug and try to reschedule for a Saturday or Sunday in October.

Regardless, there will be Diplomacy next Wednesday at the Red Lion. We currently have a full board.

Our first house game of Season 11 is scheduled for Sept. 13 to coincide with the NFL's big opening day. We need two more to make that happen, so why don't you check your calendar and make plans to join host Brian Beck. He plans to fire up the grill and will have football on in every room in his Morton Grove house.

Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

The Season 11 Opening
Season 11 will open with three great opportunities to play Dip in just eight days.

We're going to start by once again trying to pull off an outdoors game at the Chess Pavilion at North Avenue Beach. Longtime readers will recall that we were close to finally realizing this longtime dream of mine last September but that my daughter, Jane, arrived the day before we were to play, a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. So now we're going to try again. If you're unfamiliar with the Chess Pavilion, check out this video. I've wanted to play Dip there since the first time I rode my bike past way back in 1994. Our game is scheduled for September 6, the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, starting at 11 a.m. I hope you can join us.

Two Pyle into the Royale
Last Saturday's Weasel Pyle at Castle Brown in bucolic Wayne was a wild one, with two players posting big results to crack the top seven and earn spots in the Weasel Royale club championship game. Mike Morrison wasn't even in the rear-view mirror when play began on Saturday, but he scored a monster board-top in his first game and shared the top in a second to climb all the way into second place. Don Glass, meanwhile, topped his second board of the year to nab the seventh spot. Dropping out of the running were Christian Kline and Amanda Baumgartner.

Check out the site for complete Pyle coverage, including game reports, a rundown of the season awards, the announcement of the Royale field, and Sneak election results. It's all there.
