It's Martin in a Photo Finish
We've had close finishes before. Back in 2008, Mike French edged Matt Sundstrom by 2 points--the difference that year between a six-way draw and a five-way--to win his second straight CODCon title. In 2011, the CODCon and Weasel Moot titles were decided by fewer than 9 points combined. But the finish at this year's Weasel Moot tops them all.

Two-time champion Chris Martin of the Potomac Tea & Knife Society recorded the only solo on the first day of play and carried a hefty lead into Sunday's third and final round. But young Jarred Potter, a rising college freshman from Greenfield, Indiana, playing in his first tournament, soloed on Martin's board to throw the outcome in doubt.

Words to Live By
Not only did my 12-year-old son, Kevin, top yesterday's Game No. 215, his second top of the season, but he also vaulted into third place in the league, grabbed possession of a second best country award, and coined House O'Kelley's words. For those of you who are missing out, that last one is a reference to A Game of Thrones. Check out the recap.

Brownstones and Glass Houses
Eric Brown had the weekend pass, but it was Don Glass who kicked ass in Game No. 214, which was played last Saturday at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove. Check out the game summary.

Take Two
Since we fell one short of fielding a game on Memorial Day at Matt Sundstrom's home and because original Weasel Eric Brown has a rare weekend pass, we're going to try again this Saturday at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove, starting at 11 a.m. Want to play?

What a Difference a Week Makes
Two Wednesdays ago, Ted "Cake" Phillips squandered a board-leading Russian position by writing a club record seven misorders and also earned himself his less-than-flattering nickname for bringing a Strawberry Shortcake notebook to the game. It was a tough night. Fortunately for Ted, with the Weasels, one doesn't have to wait long for a shot at redemption. That shot came a week later at the Red Lion, and this time, Cake had his cake and ate it, too. Check out the game report.

All in a Wednesday Night's Work
Three builds for Italy in 1901. None for England until 1905. A new nickname. A club record for tactical ineptitude. And the visiting luminary topped the board. It was just another Wednesday night for the Weasels. Check out last week's game report.

When You Wish upon a Tsar
Everything went according to plan for Sam Bassett in Game No. 211 last week at the Red Lion. That was the problem. Check out the game report to see what went wrong and who topped the board.

Man at Work
Like a boomerang, Australian Peter McNamara keeps coming back to Chicago. His third trip here in the past nine months was the charm, as this time, he left with the CODCon tournament championship. And a vegemite sandwich.

McNamara soloed in the first round as Austria and posted 15 centers as England in the time-limited third round to win the five-board tournament going away. Check out tournament director Dan Burgess' report for the full results.
