The Weekly Weasel -- Week of June 8

It's Moot Week! Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

All Roads Lead to Moot
In anticipation of this weekend's big tournament at UIC, we've published a helpful article. Check it out for parking and public transportation tips as well as an explanation of how to find us this weekend. (We'll be in the Atrium at 700 S Halsted.) We may add other tips this week as time permits, so come back often.

Last Call for Housing
For real this time, we need to turn in our final count for the dorm by tomorrow. As of right now, we have 12 people staying at the dorm on Friday and 14 on Saturday. Should be fun. If you want to join us, let me know before 2 p.m. tomorrow (June 10). It's $41 per night for a single, $30 per night for a double.

Moot Is Busting Out All Over
It's June 1, and we're Mooting in 12 days! Who's excited? Take a look at the list of confirmed players, then let us know if your name should be on it. And don't forget to preregister to save $5 on the registration fee, or $2 if you're a student.

The dates, again, are June 13-14, and we'll be in the Atrium at UIC, 700 S Halsted. Next week, we'll have some parking tips and other tidbits for you.

Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

Housing Preregistration Closes Thursday!
Your last chance to book a room for Weasel Moot in the dorm adjacent to our venue at UIC is Thursday. We have to turn in our final head count for the dorm on Friday, so if you like the idea of a single room for $41 per night or a double for $30, then head over to the website and preregister now. Preregistration will also save you $5 on the tournament fee.

Moot is coming like a freight train. The dates are June 13-14, and we'll be in the Atrium at the University of Illinois-Chicago, 700 S Halsted. The website lists other housing options for those who are done with dorm-style living (or who don't preregister by Thursday...).

I hope you'll join us!

Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

A Board too Far
We were sitting on two boards last week until the day of the game. Alas, the real world conspired against us. Two players dropped due to pressing deadlines at work, and another dropped out at the 11th hour to deal with a personal issue.

That left us with 11, the worst possible number -- way too many for one board and one too few to force two. We've played with two players on both boards before but playing with three on both is a board too far. It would have disrupted both games, so we settled for one clean game while the rest of us enjoyed a night out at the Red Lion. For the game summary, go here.

Last week was a busy one for the Weasels with two games, and we're looking at two more boards at the Red Lion on Wednesday. No rest for the wicked. Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

A WebDip of Lies
We entertained a visiting online player from Milwaukee last week with a bonus evening of Dip and Drinks at the Red Lion. Charlie Sweet, a regular on the popular site webdiplomacy.net, felt so welcome that he topped the board. Finishing second was Weasel and fellow webdipper Scott Soren. Check out the game summary for more.

Seis de Mayo
Seven of the most interesting men in the world will gather on Wednesday at the Red Lion for a bonus Diplomacy bar game. The guest of honor is Charlie Sweet from Milwaukee, an active player on webdiplomacy.net who is in town for a technology conference. (Ex-pat Peter Yeargin is here for the same conference and may make a cameo.) If you're around on Wednesday, stop by the Lion for a bite and a beer. Interesting men prefer to play Dip in front of an audience.

Here's the latest news from the Weasels on a slow news week.

Players Needed!
We've scheduled two games for next week, but we need players for both. First up is a bonus bar game at the Red Lion on May 6. A visiting online player will be in town from Milwaukee, and he's asked us to organize a game for him. We need three more players to fill the board. Who's in?

Then on the 9th, Dan Burgess will host another game at his place in Downers Grove. Two have signed up so far, along with Dan, who will play reluctantly if necessary but prefers to host. That's Mother's Day weekend, so keep that in mind, but hey, maybe you'll be doing your wife or mother a favor by leaving the house for a full day on Saturday!

Help Needed!
The Sneak is looking for someone with expertise in Joomla to help with some updates to the back end of our website. Also, we need help converting Matt's rating system to a searchable, web-based database. Please This email address is being protected from spambots. Last Friendly House Game
Dan Burgess will host the last friendly house game before Moot on May 9 at his home in Downers Grove. The game will start at 11 a.m. and end when it ends. As always, Dan would prefer not to play so he can focus on serving you food and drink. Let's keep him happy and fill this board.

Here's what's going on with the Weasels.

Matt's Con
Like a comet or a locust or maybe a weird STD, you can count on Matt Sundstrom winning CODCon every three years. He won his first CODCon title in 2009 after finishing 2 points behind champion Mike French the previous year. Then he won again in 2012 on the strength of a Turkish solo. And last weekend at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, he won yet again. This time, he didn't even need the Turkish solo; he could have won with his other two results.

Hey, CODCon is this weekend, and here's what's going on with the Weasels.

Supersizing CODCon
Over the eight previous CODCon Open Diplomacy tournaments, we've averaged a total of exactly seven boards per year. This year's installment is this weekend, and we have a legitimate chance to match that number or top it on Saturday alone.

As of right now, we have 28 people on the list of confirmed attendees. That number includes ex-pat Aash Anand, who's flying in from Denver; Eric and Danny Grinnel, who are driving up from Kentucky; and Ben Johnson and Zach Moore, who are driving down from Wisconsin or Minnesota, I'm not really sure where. Ben lived in Madison, I think, when he attended CODCon the first time in 2013. But I'm pretty sure he's in Minnesota now. Maybe.
