Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

The Season 11 Opening
Season 11 will open with three great opportunities to play Dip in just eight days.

We're going to start by once again trying to pull off an outdoors game at the Chess Pavilion at North Avenue Beach. Longtime readers will recall that we were close to finally realizing this longtime dream of mine last September but that my daughter, Jane, arrived the day before we were to play, a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. So now we're going to try again. If you're unfamiliar with the Chess Pavilion, check out this video. I've wanted to play Dip there since the first time I rode my bike past way back in 1994. Our game is scheduled for September 6, the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, starting at 11 a.m. I hope you can join us.

Two Pyle into the Royale
Last Saturday's Weasel Pyle at Castle Brown in bucolic Wayne was a wild one, with two players posting big results to crack the top seven and earn spots in the Weasel Royale club championship game. Mike Morrison wasn't even in the rear-view mirror when play began on Saturday, but he scored a monster board-top in his first game and shared the top in a second to climb all the way into second place. Don Glass, meanwhile, topped his second board of the year to nab the seventh spot. Dropping out of the running were Christian Kline and Amanda Baumgartner.

Check out the site for complete Pyle coverage, including game reports, a rundown of the season awards, the announcement of the Royale field, and Sneak election results. It's all there.

Martin Wins Third North American Championship
Chris Martin, the three-time Alpha Weasel, also won the North American Diplomacy Championship for a third time this past weekend at the Philadelphia Massacre. Playing in only three of the four rounds and therefore without the safety net of a drop round, Martin topped all three of his boards to win the championship.

Martin's other North American Championships came in 1998 at DixieCon and 2011 in Carnage. The 1998 championship doubled as the world championship. Martin also won the DipCon Do-Over in 2008 but declined that title for propriety's sake. His Weasel Moot championships came in 2007 (the inaugural Moot), 2011, and 2013.

I'm sure he's equally proud of the shout-out he earned for finishing seventh at this year's CODCon, a feat he managed while playing in only one round.

Seeking Candidates for the Sneak
Election season is upon us, and mercifully, our cycle is less than two weeks long. We have three seats up for election this year -- the ones currently occupied by Nate Cockerill, Don Glass and me. Don and I will seek reelection; Nate no longer lives in the area and therefore is prohibited from running according to the club charter.

If you'd like to run, please email John Gramila at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 5 p.m. on Friday. You must be a paid-up member who lives in the area defined in the charter. Click here for more information.

Hosts Cash in on Daily Double
We found our 13th and 14th players at the 11th hour for last Saturday's two boards in two locations. Both hosts fared well. Dan Burgess shared the board top with two of his guests -- perhaps strengthening his claim to be the club's best host -- while Matt Sundstrom posted a monster score on his board, leapfrogging two rivals to take a commanding lead in the club standings. Check out the game summaries.

Two events remain in Season 10: another Red Wednesday on August 12 and then the season-ending Weasel Pyle on August 15. We hope you'll join us for one or both.

Daily Double Trouble
It's crunch time for our Saturday experiment of trying to fill two boards at two different locations. As of right now, we have 12 players lined up for Dip, including two newcomers who contacted us today via Facebook to commit to the Glenview game. Can we come up with two more to make this happen. Anyone? Christian Kline? Sam Bassett? John Gramila? Mike Whitty? Tony Prokes? Anyone?

We're back from our annual summer hiatus with another edition of the Weekly Weasel. Read on for all the latest news from the Weasels.

Dip in Stereo
On July 25, we're going to try something new. For the first time in our 10 seasons, we'll attempt to host concurrent games in two different locations.

Dan Burgess and Matt Sundstrom will play host in Downers Grove and Glenview, respectively. The games will begin at 11 a.m. So far, we have four for Dan's game and two for Matt's, so we need some more players to make this ambitious promotion happen. Who's in?

Deja Moot
As promised in the last issue, the website and Facebook event page for next year's World Championship at Weasel Moot X are now up. Check them out. The event will take place June 24-26, 2016, in Roosevelt University's vertical campus at Wabash and Congress.

Preregistration for the con is now open. We're still working out the process for reserving a room in the vertical dorm. Stay tuned for that.

Holy cow, it's Friday already?!? Am I the only one suffering from a #Mootover?

Throwing Weasels on the Barbie
Weasel Moot IX was an intimate but cosmopolitan affair, perhaps in anticipation of next year's world championship. The field featured nationals from Australia, India and Iran, plus a Yank who's spent most of the past four or five years living in Germany. And although Sunday was Flag Day, we permitted one of the foreigners to capture our flag. Congrats to the Australian Peter McNamara, our Alpha Weasel iota.

Moot was McNamara's second Chicago title. He also won CODCon in 2013. He's only the third player to capture both titles, joining Matt Sundstrom and John Gramila. This time around, he dominated the field, soloing in the second round as Austria (he also soloed with Austria in '13) and topping his two other boards. In fact his #DropRound score alone would have placed him 11th in the tournament out of 29 players.

It's Moot Week! Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

All Roads Lead to Moot
In anticipation of this weekend's big tournament at UIC, we've published a helpful article. Check it out for parking and public transportation tips as well as an explanation of how to find us this weekend. (We'll be in the Atrium at 700 S Halsted.) We may add other tips this week as time permits, so come back often.

Last Call for Housing
For real this time, we need to turn in our final count for the dorm by tomorrow. As of right now, we have 12 people staying at the dorm on Friday and 14 on Saturday. Should be fun. If you want to join us, let me know before 2 p.m. tomorrow (June 10). It's $41 per night for a single, $30 per night for a double.
