Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

Are You Related to the Peter Lokken Who Used to Top Boards?
March Madness tipped off yesterday at John Gramila's home in Humboldt Park, and there was a guy there who sort of resembled Peter Lokken. I mean the Peter Lokken who set a club record with 7.5 board tops in his first full season of play with the Weasels and who soloed in the second round of the 2012 WDC to earn a berth in the world championship game. Not the guy who hadn't topped a board outright in league play since May 2012. Could the old Peter Lokken be back?

Your Long-Awaited, Much-Anticipated Weasel Moot Announcement
I'm putting the cart slightly ahead of the horse here because we haven't actually signed and delivered the contract yet, but the Sneak has approved it, so the signing is just a formality. Nevertheless, you may want to wait a couple of days before you reserve your room. Anyway, we're pleased to finally announce that Weasel Moot VIII will be July 26-27 at the Hampton Inn and Suites in the heart of Chicago's bustling River North neighborhood, just two blocks off the famed Magnificent Mile.

We hope you'll plan to join us for our signature event in a great new location. We plan to start the weekend with a social event Friday night at a venue to be determined. I'm not saying it's been determined, but I am saying that the Blue Frog's Local 22 karaoke bar is right by the hotel, so. ... The tournament will begin Saturday morning. We'll play two rounds on Saturday and one on Sunday, wrapping up our awards ceremony no later than 5:30 p.m.

March Madness Rolls On
Our seventh annual March Madness campaign continues this weekend with a game at the Concentric game convention at the Holiday Inn Itasca. We'll start at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The first board is full, but we can get you in if you want to play, and if there's sufficient interest, we'll field a second board. The March 22 game at Peter Lokken's home in Logan Square is also full.

We still need players for the Ides of March game at Tony Prokes' home in Des Plaines and the March 29 game at Matt Sundstrom's home in Glenview.

CODCon is Coming...
In 32 days, we'll be kicking off our eighth annual CODCon Open Diplomacy tournament. Have you made your plans to join us? The three-round tournament will be April 5-6, 2014, at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. It's not necessary to play in all three rounds--although we hope you will--and it only takes one round to qualify for awards, of which there will be plenty: plaques for first through third place and best play of each country, prizes for fourth through seventh, and maybe some special awards.

The Open is the Chicago area's longest-running Diplomacy tournament. It's a fun event with great people watching. I hope you'll join us this year.

You can find more information about our tournament, including the schedule, here. Learn more about the CODCon convention here. When you decide to come, be sure to respond on Meetup here.

Dues
Eventually we'll get around to mailing our annual e-appeal for 2014 dues. In the meantime, feel free to use the PayPal link we set up for 2013 to pay your 2014 dues. We're still charging $25, $10 if you're a student. Fourteen people have paid up already. Thanks! Remember, your dues pay for our website, the Meetup site, our annual club awards, and the awards for both the Royale and the Brawl, among other things.

That's all for this week.
