Here's the latest news from the Weasels.
Barfield Wins Tempest
Chris Barfield flew in from Ethiopia to participate in this year's Tempest in a Teapot in Silver Spring, Maryland. For his troubles, he got a solo in the second round and his first tournament championship.
Couldn't happen to a better person, as far as I'm concerned. I got to know him a little bit during a cigar break at WACCon a few years ago. He was working for the government of Saudi Arabia at the time, and I asked how that had happened. He explained that when the towers fell on 9-11, he decided to pursue Middle Eastern Studies and an eventual career in the Foreign Service.
He was only 13. I turn 48 tomorrow and still don't know what I want to do.
Chris attended our WDC in 2012 and plans to come back next year. He's always welcome here and won't ever have to buy a drink when he's out with me.
(The takeaway from this story is that I turn 48 tomorrow. Help me celebrate on Red Wednesday.)
We haven't yet talked with the Red Lion about 2016 dates for our popular Red Wednesdays, but we'll take care of that this week. We currently have eight signed up for Wednesday's game
, which will start at 6:30 and end by 11. Four to six more, and we can make two boards happen. Who's in?
The Weasel Way
There's a burgeoning hobby in the Netherlands, and I've been exchanging emails with the key organizers recently. They want to know how we got started, the details of our league, and the merits of weeknight bar games. Maybe we'll have few players in wooden shoes at next year's WDC.
- October 14 at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square, beginning at 6:30 p.m. until no later than 11. Have eight; need six more for a second board.
- October 24 at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove, beginning at 11 a.m. Have seven; standbys welcome.
