A webdip of lies

Charlie Sweet, known as MKECharlie on the popular webdiplomacy.net site, was in town from Milwaukee for a tech conference this week, so fellow webdipper Scott Soren (ssorenn)--who started playing with us last spring--asked me to organize a game for him. That's how we wound up at the Red Lion on Wednesday for a bonus evening of Dip and Drinks.

John Gramila (gramilaj) and I (JimTheGrey), both veteran webdippers, were initially scheduled to play as well, but for reasons beyond our control, we both had to bail. Our 11th-hour replacements were newcomer Bryce Colquitt and old-timer Christian Kline.

I was there for the first few game-years. When I left as 1904 dawned, Charlie as Russia and Geoff Serednesky in Italy, one of our active new recruits this year, were sharing the board-top at seven, but Geoff's units were fighting in three theaters. Scott's Germany, meanwhile, was poised to explode against Bryce in England, who had overcommitted against Edwin Kite's France. (Edwin, another active season 10 recruit.)

Geoff weathered 1904, but 1905 did not go so well, to put it mildly. Check out the damage in the supply center chart. The game ended by time limit after the Fall 1906 turn with the webdippers winning the day. The final center counts for Game No. 269 were:

Austria (Matt Sundstrom): 1; 0.368 points.
England (Bryce Colquitt): 4; 5.882 points.
France (Edwin Kite): 0; 0.000 points.
Germany (Scott Soren): 10; 36.765 points.
Italy (Geoff Serednesky): 3; 3.309 points.
Russia (Charlie Sweet): 11; 44.485 points.
Turkey (Christian Kline): 5; 9.191 points.

A couple of notes. Bryce and Charlie ran our count of first-time Weasels this season to 31. That's 31 out of 59 players. In addition, Charlie was the 300th player to participate in one of our league games.

Next up for the Weasels is a game today at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove. That gets under way in about 2 1/2 hours. Then we'll be back at the Red Lion on Wednesday for our regularly scheduled Red Wednesday. We're expecting two boards for that one. Finally, Weasel Moot looms large next month. It will be June 13-14 at UIC. Make your plans to join us!
