Cockerill Gets 'em All
Just like the old Weasel proverb, Nate Cockerill got 'em all in Season 7. He led the league with five board-tops en route to a fourth-place finish and a third straight berth in the Weasel Royale club championship, which took place last Saturday at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove. And he topped that board, too, to win his first Chicago title. Congrats to Beefy Nate Cockerill, our 2012 club champion and Bull Weasel.

Slow Start to Season Eight
After fielding two boards on Opening Night at Guthrie's on Sept. 13, we've run into some trouble filling games. We pulled the plug on the Sept. 26 Red Lion game, and last weekend at Conception, no one listened as Tony Prokes tried to spread the Gospel.

We should have better luck this week. We're currently at four for the Guthrie's game on Wednesday, beginning at 6:45 p.m. It will end no later than 11 p.m. And we already have nine for the birthday game at my place in Little Italy on Saturday. We need five more for two boards. We'll start at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Busy Week for the Weasels
This coming weekend begins a busy stretch for the Weasels of four games in eight days. The fun starts on Saturday at the intimate Conception game convention at the College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn. Tony Prokes will run standard Diplomacy, beginning at Noon. On Sunday, he'll run Colonial Diplomacy, again starting at Noon.

This is the same basic formula he followed last year, when he picked up four players at the con. It would help to have two or three Weasels out there to help fill boards. If you're able to play, let me know, or drop Tony an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Let's Get Ready to Rumble!
This season, we're introducing a new series to our league play. In addition to counting as regular club games, bar games will now count toward the new Barroom Brawl series, as well. Using our standard Sum of Squares scoring system, we'll track each player's best three bar games. At the end of the season, we'll invite the top seven Brawlers to compete in a championship game, which, of course, will be a time-limited, week-night bar game. Click here for more details.

Cock and Kelly Take the Openers
Season Eight opened last Thursday with two boards at Guthrie's Tavern in Wrigleyville. A total of 13 players showed up for Opening Night, with Eamon Driscoll pulling double duty. Nate Cockerill took the early lead in the standings with a big board top, edging Australian Peter McNamara 12-10 to earn 48.6 points. Chris Kelly topped the other board with eight centers, hauling in a more modest 35.6 points. Check out the supply center charts here.

Here's the latest news from the Weasels.

Season Eight Kicks off on Thursday!
Our eighth season of Windy City Weasels Diplomacy kicks off Thursday night at Guthrie's Tavern in Wrigleyville. We have seven, including Australian transplant Peter McNamara, who's in town from the Bay Area and is making time to play Dip with us. We're now looking for standbys or possibly a second board, so speak up if you're interested.
Our eighth season likely will be a bit of letdown compared with last year, which, of course, culminated in the world championship at Weasel Moot VI. Hard to top that. But, we expect to play a lot of Diplomacy this year, and we still have our 200th game to celebrate. Thursday's game will be our club's 194th regular season game. We should hit 200 before the New Year.
Check out the lineup for Thursday's game here.

Don't Let the Door Hit You in the Aash!
Congrats to Aash Anand on securing a job and entering the work force. Unfortunately, the recent University of Chicago graduate's new gig will take him to Denver. He leaves next week.
Aash played 23 games with the Weasels over the past three seasons and competed in three of our tournaments. He placed second at the sixth annual CODCon Open last April, and in August, he became the first Indian national to compete in a world championship while finishing a club-high ninth at WDC.
Best wishes, Buddy. We expect to see you on the tournament circuit and hope that you'll make Weasel Moot a regular stop.

Conception Deception, Oct. 6 and 7
Since last year's kick-off event at the small Conception gaming convention was such a huge success for the Weasels, with three boards including our first ever variant, we're going to do it again this year. Tony Prokes will again run standard Diplomacy on Saturday and Colonial Diplomacy on Sunday. The dates are Oct. 6 and 7, and we'll start at Noon both days.
