Cock-e-rill!

WCW Club Season 2011 Games

It's a toss-up as to which was more impressive last night: Nate Cockerill's stylish beret and disturbing Hangover t-shirt or the way he dominated Game No. 115 as Russia. For a second straight Wednesday, the Weasels were at Guthrie's Tavern for Diplomacy. This time eight of us showed up, including new player Lauren Norris, a co-worker of longtime Guthrie's players John Susoreny and Michael Martinez, both of whom hadn't played in a long time--since December and March, respectively. The odd, or rather even, number left your War Weasel to drink alone at the bar. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

This week's Guthrie's game moves to Wednesday!

WCW Club Season 2011 Games

Due to scheduling conflicts at Guthrie's and an early Friday morning flight for the War Weasel, this week's Guthrie's game is moving to Wednesday night. The Ballydoyle game in Downers Grove remains on Thursday night.

Prokes Brittania!

WCW Club Season 2011 Games

Tony Prokes topped Game No. 114, played today at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove, and snagged Best England in the process. He's the third person to hold that honor in four days.

Earlier this morning, it looked like the players were going to settle for a six-player variant, as we had been unable to find a replacement for the fifth person to drop from the game this week. Fortunately, Dan's neighbor Chris Albert agreed to step in until I could spell him later in the day.

Today's game in jeopardy

WCW Club Season 2011 Games

Like the Edmund Fitzgerald (second reference in a week on this site!) 35 years and three days before it, today's Diplomacy game at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove is in danger of capsizing. You'll recall that this game filled within 24 hours of being posted on the site. Unfortunately, five of the original seven players dropped this week. We've scrambled to replace four of them (counting Dan as a replacement), but as of now, we stand at six.

The following options are on the table:

  1. Strongarming a neighbor to make seven.
  2. Playing a variant instead.
  3. Delaying the start by three hours or so for a seventh.

The best option would be for an eager Weasel to step forward to round out this board, but three already have. Five drops may be more than our club can handle. If you can play, please call or email Dan immediately.

Fan favorite tops Armistice Game

WCW Club Season 2011 Games

Fan favorite Jim O'Kelley defied the odds (referring to the 71.4 percent chance that someone named John or Peter would top) to top the Armistice Game, played on Veterans Day Eve at Guthrie's Tavern. Originally scheduled for Chicagoland Games, Game No. 113 relocated to Guthrie's because several of the players had Veterans Day off. That turned out to be a good decision--Guthrie's had a nice crowd for a Wednesday, but it wasn't nearly as jammed as it is on the typical Thursday.
